A young face is often characterised as a skin without wrinkles and a voluminous look. This effect can be reached by using the unique Radiesse filler, which not only directly corrects wrinkles, but also stimulates the natural creation of collagen to stimulate an effective and natural occurring repair in volume.
Radiesse has proven its effect and safety. Elaborate scientific research have shown the effect and its safety on numerous of occasions. Volume Radiesse is one of three most used fillers across the globe.

Radiesse is a non-permanent wrinkle filler, made from synthetic calcium-hydroxyl (CaHa) micro particles suspended in a water based gel carrier. CaHa and the components calcium and phosphate are also naturally present in tissue such as teeth and bones and is therefor completely bio compatible, making an allergy test unnecessary.
When Radiesse is injected into the skin, the gel matrix of calcium phosphate micro spheres pushes the facial contours upwards, resulting in a lifting and voluminous effect.
For long lasting results the micro spheres stimulate the production of natural collagen, reinforcing volume increase.
Radiesse is biodegradable and will be disposed of by the body over time. The results last up to a year and a half in most people.
Radiesse is effective in many instances such as the nasolabial fold, drooping mouth corners, cheeks, jaw line and chin fold. New applications are hand rejuvenation and the so called liquid facelift.
Over time the hands show the tell tale signs of aging. Veins and sinews on the top of the hands become more visible as time goes by, because the underlying layer of fat becomes thinner. When your skin loses volume, Radiesse can act as a solution.
In 2009, Doctor Thio was part of European study researching the performance of Radiesse in the treatment of hand rejuvenation. This resulted in a scientific publication called “A Multi-national, Multi-country, Multi-patient Study of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (Radiesse™ dermal filler) for Treatment of the Aging Hand” in the medical journal “Dermatologic Surgery”. The younger the face, the firmer the skin and the more the contours are pronounced. The face is symmetrical and has a V-shape.
No matter how great your genes, all skin types lose firmness sooner or later. Proportions change, volume decreases. Gravity takes its toll, the face starts drooping and the chin loses its shape. The youthful V-shape slowly starts “turning around” and our age becomes more apparent, despite how young we feel.
The V-Effect is the solution to restore a youthful appearance. Treating individual wrinkles is not sufficient, the face needs to be lifted as a whole. With the right amount of volume and the correct injection technique the face will regain its optimal V-shape and the effect of wrinkles and sagging is reduced in a natural looking way.
In the regular medical field (orthopedics, dentistry) Radiesse has been used for over 20 years without any noteworthy complications. Over 2 million cosmetic procedures have been performed.
Radiesse is composed from naturally occurring matter and doesn’t contain any animal substances, making the possibility of an allergicl reaction minimal (less than 0,1 %); an allergy test is therefor not necessary. Should an allergic reaction occur, it is very easily treatable with an antihistamine. Local inflammations also hardly occur (in less than 0,1% of cases) and can be treated with an antibiotic. In both instances there aren’t any negative consequences for the result of the treatment.
Very seldom a tiny lump will appear after treatment, this is a concentration of the injected product and isn’t visible. After massaging the area for a couple of days this will disappear in most cases. If massaging doesn’t work it will gradually dissolve by itself and disappear after about 2 months. Permanent lumps do not occur, because Radiesse is completely biodegradable.
Radiesse was approved by the European Union in and has a CE certification. Radiesse is also FDA approved for product safety.
In 2009 Radiesse was chosen as “best injectable product of the year” by the Aesthetic Medicine Awards, the largest esthetic magazine for professionals in the UK. Over 2 million units of Radiesse have been sold worldwide.
Before the procedure
During the intake your wishes and expectations are discussed with the doctor who will also be performing the procedure. This intake is always free of charge and without any obligations. You will be told about the options, alternatives and possible results.
If you decide to go ahead with the procedure you will fill out a form regarding your health which will determine if Radiesse is suitable for you. In most cases there isn’t a contra-indication, except for if you are (possibly) pregnant, if you have a cold sore in the area that needs to be treated or if your skin hasn’t healed completely after a laser treatment or peeling. “Before pictures” will be taken, which serve as a reference to examine the results during your check-up.
By adding lidocaine to the gel, the procedure is made more comfortable. For wrinkle treatment with Radiesse extra anesthetic isn’t necessary, but you can discuss the possibility of using a creme which numbs the area that is being treated.
The gel is administered in small quantities with a very thin, sterile needle into the skin. This can cause a mildly stinging sensation.
Radiesse creates volume under the wrinkle/fold, which is pushed upwards and becomes smoother as a result. The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes and afterward you can resume your daily activities.
For the hand rejuvenation treatment the skin will be anesthetized and subsequently Radiesse will be injected into the skin. The few lumps that will appear will skillfully be massaged by your doctor in order to create a beautiful and even result. The entire procedure is painfree and takes about 30 minutes.
For a liquid facelift the skin will be anesthetized and subsequently Radiesse will be injected into the skin with help of a cannula. The few lumps that will appear will skillfully be massaged by your doctor in order to create volume and restore facial contours. If needed, a few accents will be placed in certain areas with a thin needle. The procedure takes about 45 minutes. Hardly any swelling will occur, but a small bruise can appear in the spot where the cannula was inserted.
Every procedure is evaluated after approximately 4 weeks and, if needed, repeated in order to achieve the best possible results.
After the procedure
Directly after the procedure the skin can show signs of redness and sensitivity, a light swelling can also occur. This is a normal reaction to injections and disappears after 2 days. It is recomended to cool the treated area for half an hour with an ice pack in order to minimize swelling and any bruises.
Should a bruise occur, this will disappear after a couple of days. You are allowed to apply make up a few hours after the procedure in order to camouflage any bruising or redness. Directly after the procedure you can resume your daily activities. For the first week after the procedure you should avoid the sun, sunbed or sauna.
When the swelling disappears after 2 day (should it occur) you will witness the result of the procedure. The effects can be enforced after a couple of weeks, once your body starts creating collagen.
At the check up after approximately 4 weeks the “after photos” will be taken in order to evaluate the result. The option of a possible second treatment will be discussed, which can be performed immediately.
The effect of a Radiesse treatment will on average be visible for a year, but can differ, depending on age, skin type, life style (sun exposure, smoking) and muscle activity.
