Imagine that you suffer from the Alopecia Areata disease, which means ‘spot baldness’. To make matters worse this disease manifests itself usually on the head. Scars, pimples and other imperfections can be camouflaged fairly well, but how do you camouflage the absence of eyebrows? A real disaster for those who go through life with this disease. But, there is hope!
What is Alopecia Areata?
It is a disease of the hair roots. At the places where the hair roots are affected, bald spots appear. Around these places the hair grows normally and in these places only a few hairs will grow, if any. Often you see that these people also have (almost) no eyebrows.
That has a direct impact on the self-confidence of these people. Like everyone else, they also make ‘a first impression’ on everyone they meet for the first time. And, let’s be honest, without eyebrows you have a ‘bald’ face. People who suffer from this disease often tend to avoid going out and meet others, so they become more and more independent. This can even lead to social isolation.
Is there anything to be done about it?
When it comes to small spots, in many cases the hair grows back to the bald spots. In the first years, the hair will remain white. It is possible that the color will come back again in due course. Various treatments are possible via doctors.
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee for success with these treatments and very unpleasant side effects are to be expected. What remains is makeup and permanent makeup. For the eyebrows, these can be treated very nicely with Microblading.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a new technique that is widely used on people who have no eyebrows because of Alopecia Areata. The result of this treatment is truly amazing! By means of so-called ‘hairstrokes’, dye is applied just under the skin in very fine lines. This gives you a beautiful (optical) eyebrow back, which in the first instance is often not really distinguishable.
How does that work in practice?
First you will discuss which form of eyebrow best suits your face. The ‘eyebrow’ will be drawn on your face, so that you know if the expected result will meet your expectations.
Together with the specialist, you choose a color. The skin is then rubbed onto the treatment site with an anesthetic cream. Then the hairstrokes are applied with great precision. After a few weeks you will come back for the final treatment.
How long does the result remain good?
After a certain period of time, depending on the color used, the color will start to fade a bit. You can then simply touch up the eyebrows. In general, people who have eyebrows with Microblading choose to go back every six months. That way, the eyebrows always remain beautiful.
