I’m asked this question frequently during consults. Acne, red spots, oily or dry skin, etc. I have a few simple tips that will help you improve your skin and keep it looking young and radiant.
It seems easy but it’s really hard to quit once you’re addicted to nicotine. Apart from the fact that it damages the lungs and other parts of your body, smoking is also associated with wrinkles and skin-ageing. If you quit smoking now you can prevent the worsening of wrinkles.
More than half of your body consists of water so remember to hydrate your body well to keep dry skin at bay. I usually advise to drink 2 liters a day. This might seem like a lot, especially if you don’t like to drink water. Maybe you can try drinking green or herbal tea instead? Alcohol is not a great way to keep yourself hydrated – it actually extracts water from the body.
Protect yourself from sunlight
I cannot say this enough; always protect your skin from the sun, even in winter. Radiation from the sun damages the skin, can increase your chances of getting skin cancer and will age your skin without you noticing it right away. Use a day cream with SPF (such as the Image Skincare moisturizer) and use a sun cream with a high SPF filter like Esthederm when you sunbathe.
Your blood circulation improves when you exercise regularly. Go outside for a walk or sign up for a class. Don’t feel like going to the gym? You can exercise on the Powerplate in complete privacy at our facility.
Eat healthy meals
This comes up frequently of course but eating healthy meals does not have to be difficult. Everyone knows that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is good for your body. Try to avoid unhealthy fats and sugars, the ones you primarily find in fast food. When you eat healthy food on a regular basis you can almost immediately tell by your skin: healthy, moisturized and radiant
Take good care of yourself and cleanse your skin with the right products and treatments
So start your day with cleaning your skin. Have a really good look at which products you use and specifically look at the ingredients listed. Sometimes ingredients can be too aggressive for your skin type, which will then cause damage instead of improvement. I personally recommend the Image Skincare cleansers.
Why not just water?
Water cannot remove all makeup residue, dirt or dissolve oils. It’s best to apply a facial cream with a SPF protector that is specially designed for your skin after cleansing. If you have dry skin, moisturize with a hydrating cream.
Regular skin treatments also improve your skin and keep it in tip top shape. There are many different treatments available so let a skin expert advise you on what’s best for you and your skin type.
Avoid stress and take plenty of rest
Which is easier said than done but your body needs plenty of rest to be able to restore. A good night’s sleep is therefore very important. An average of 8 hours a night is enough. Stress ages your body at a quicker speed so try to avoid it as much as possible. Relax!
